Limonite ps. Pyrite (Texas!)

Item Description

Striking and RARE West Texas limonite after pyrite pseudomorph. Lustrous rust-brown limonite replaces densely intergrown pyrite cubes. Most of the pseudos have striking stepped-growth faces, with several being distorted cubes, including the prominent large crystal, at 4.1 cm on the diagonal. The noted bit of periphery wear is certainly a modest detraction to this exotic Texas rarity. Probably older material from the 1950s to 1960s. MINDAT does NOT list pyrite or limonite from Lubbock County or any of the adjacent 8 counties, that surround Lubbock County. Hale County lists limonite from two meteorite occurrences. It has several fine display views. VERY RARE. A MUST for the Texas, pseudomorph or species collector.
