Limonite on Quartz

Item Description

A highly unusual specimen which is uncleaned, to show the natural coating that sometimes can occur on quartz from this locality. Often, they just have an ugly, partial iron staining. It must come off! However, every now and then, there is a thick enough iron presence that we seem to have real, crude mineralization, in this case a coating of thin limonite. The contrast is striking, unusual, and warrants leaving the iron mineral on the specimen instead of using acid to remove it, thus preserving this natural and rare find.
