Liddicoatite (multi-colored)

A beautiful, stout, multi-colored tourmaline from the older 2000s finds at the Camp Robin area. The upper half of the lustrous, striated trigonal crystal is a luscious, translucent, cranberry-red. A fascinating dark purple pinacoidal termination crowns the etched pyramidal faces. The lower half of the crystal is a striking, layered, very gemmy, golden-yellow. Backlighting really highlights the rich color variations on this very attractive tourmaline. Originally called as liddicoatite, it may be fluor-liddicoatite. This came out of an old Italian collection which had been supplied directly by Federico Pezzotta, who brought this out and sold it to the collector from those old finds. Crystals like this sell for godly sums at shows, especially if well backlit in a showcase.
