Item Description

An impressive, large, 362 gram elbaite-liddicoatite tourmaline crystal from Madagascar. This is among the more robust and larger ones I have seen from this locality. It is very glassy, lustrous, well-striated, has good form and the sawtooth termination is striking. The crystal is complete-all-around and the contacting on the back is out of sight. The gemmier termination area has fabulous color, a vibrant spice-orange with cranberry-red highlights. The sides are a pastel-pink and the core is olive gray-green, which mutes the pink. The termination is dazzling under good light!. Older material, from the 1970s or 80s and now very hard to obtain, as the piece is labeled as being from the Mt. Bity area. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection.
