Item Description

An interesting, desirable and classic rough and cut set for the cutstone collector. Famed Mt Vesuvius is the Type Locality for Leucite, a Feldspathoid Group species common in some volcanic rocks. A classic, super sharp, moderately translucent tetragonal crystal with characteristic polysynthetic twin lamellae. The beautiful gem, round-cut colorless crystal has 1.01 carats mass. Leucite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6, about the same as Apatite or Orthoclase, but less than Quartz, at 7.
