Item Description

This is honestly one of the best examples of this material that we've had to offer in terms of crystallization and overall quality. Around Colorado many people know about this REE Li-Be mine near Ohio City, which is the source of the most famous multi-color Tourmaline specimens from Colorado, along with some beautiful pieces of "Lepidolite". It's important to note that Lepidolite is no longer a valid mineral species, and according to the scattered information we found, Lepidolite is defined as a mineral in the so-called Polylithionite-Trilithionite series. This piece is a very attractive representation of this material featuring good quality, sharp, translucent, pearlescent, soft purplish colored hexagonal crystal groups free of matrix. The edges are not fully crystallized, but the top / display side of the piece is in very good shape. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
