Lepidolite

Mica species are often viewed as an associated mineral especially given they are not often found as collector-quality display specimens, and rarely are the "star" of a particular piece. However, several years ago there was a discovery in the Barra do Salinas district that produced these gorgeous and unusual specimens of rare bi-colored "Lepidolite" Mica. Now it must be noted that Lepidolite is no longer a valid mineral species, and according to mindat.org, it is a "Li-rich mica in, or close to, the so-called Polylithionite-Trilithionite series." With that said, this piece is a beautiful slice/cleavage of this gorgeous dual-colored Mica with a strong purple "Lepidolite" rind and a golden core of what is more than likely Muscovite in the center.
