Item Description

Mineral specimens are VERY RARE from this ancient iron mine, abandoned in 1961. RARE striking red-brown botryoids of lepidocrocite, a Fe-oxide with a hydroxyl, are dramatically clustered and scattered on the large sculptural matrix of layered, segmented limonite covered with tiny lustrous, charcoal-gray limonite botryoids. The impressive lepidocrocite botryoids, to 1.7 cm, are composed of radiating lathes of crystals. Rare, perhaps UNIQUE old-time material from this locale. The lepidocrocite has been XRD confirmed at the University of Arizona. This otherworldly combination has multiple display views.
