For all of you rarities collectors out there, this one's for you. This is a fine and unusual gemstone consisting of two separate minerals. Ordinarily this would only be a simple colorless Quartz gem were it not for the dozens of bright red, fibrous inclusions of Lepidicrocite inside of it! Lepidicrocite is iron oxide that forms in slender, acicular or "needle-like", bright red crystals (typically as inclusions inside of quartz). This material is sometimes referred to as "strawberry quartz". The distinguishing factor for these stones that separates the good from the great is the color of the inclusions. Typically the Lepidicrocite is a brownish-red color and not a bright RED like the inclusions in this "Oval Cabochon" cut stone.
