Item Description

A magnificent gem of what has been dubbed "Lemonade" Quartz from Taylor Mountain in central Colorado. Taylor Mountain is a 12,791 foot high peak that sits about 5 miles southwest of Mt Antero. This gem is the largest known example of this elusive material and features a superb "Modified Emerald Brilliant" cut. Now the stone has some visible inclusions, but this is actually key to the gems' color, and it's actually the reason for the name "Lemonade". If these unidentified inclusions were not present, this stone would almost certainly be colorless, and not carry nearly the same amount of significance. The color is 100% natural, there is no treatment, heating, irradiation, etc. to change or enhance this soft yellow hue. A must have gem for any fan of unique Quartz stones, gems of Colorado or simply large collector quality gems. This stone was faceted by the renowned gem dealer, gem cutter, field collector and Graduate Gemologist, John Rhoads of D&J Rare Gems in Salida, Colorado. John is a multiple AGTA Cutting Edge Award winner and one of the most skilled gem cutters in the United States. Reportedly the largest and finest gem of this material known. From the collection of Dr. James "Jim" Houran, noted thumbnail mineral collector, gemstone collector and a speaker at our annual Dallas Mineral Symposium. Jim is the Managing Director of AETHOS Consulting Group. He's a 25-year veteran in applied psychological research and a published expert on peak performance, online testing and interpersonal and organizational compatibility. He has authored over 150 articles, and his award-winning work has been profiled by a myriad of media outlets and programs including the Discovery Channel, A&E, BBC, National Geographic, NBC’s Today Show, USA Today, New Scientist, Psychology Today and Forbes.com.
