Item Description

A wonderful and very rarely seen specimen of Lemanskiite from Chiley. Lemanskiite is a scarce hydrated sodium calcium copper arsenate, which has only been found in less than 10 places on earth. This mineral was named for New Jersey collector, and former President of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society, Chet Lemanski. It was approved in 1999, but it wasn't actually published until 2006. Lemanskiite is well known for its beautiful blue color, which comes from the fact that it's a dimorph of Lavendulan, another vibrant blue mineral. This miniature sized piece features a rich layer of strong blue colored Lemanskiite on matrix from the Abundancia Mine, and is certainly one of the best examples from this particular locality that we've had to offer in the auctions. If you collect rarities, this is something that you won't find in such rich examples on the market these days, so don't miss out.
From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-187212.html
