Legrandite with Smithsonite

Legrandite is one of the 'holy grails' of Mexican minerals, and this excellent miniature from the famous Mina Ojuela fits right in to that catagory. The Legrandites, orange-yellow in color, have superb luster and fine form, with some of the terminations being so gemmy that they glow with just the right light. The largest crystal is 2.1 cm long, and all sit nicely on the limonite matrix, which provides a good contrast in color and form. In combination, there are numerous, modified rice grains of Smithsonite in the lower portion of the pocket, and bright white balls of something else (calcite?) perched on one of the Legrandites. The aesthetics, quality, and rarity of pieces like this make it a true prize, and even more desirable now than when they first came out in 1978. Stunning luster and color!
