Item Description
Gemmy and lustrous rosettes and sprays of golden-yellow legrandite prisms, to 1.1 cm, are dramatically set on this very rich and aesthetic miniature from the Type Locality Flor de Pena Mine, NOT the more famous and far larger Mina Ojuela. The gossan matrix also hosts tiny lustrous, gray smithsonite botryoids, a typical association. This would thus be an old specimen, probably 1950s or earlier (it was first found here in the 1920s and was formally described in 1932). Specimens of this quality and richness are RARE from here and are highly desirable. This is an EXCEPTIONAL and RARE piece with two fine display views! See the TWO excellent articles on Flor de Pena legrandite in the current Mineralogical Record Mexico - Special Issue VII, Vol. 47, No. 5. Valued at $1000-1500.
