Item Description

Legrandite is certainly in a very small category of minerals that are not only incredibly rare, but very beautiful as well. I think a lot of collectors and dealers would agree that it is certainly among the most desirable treasures as it satisfies this rare dual criteria of a mineral species. Chemically, Legrandite is a zinc arsenate species, but good specimens with eye-visible crystals have only been found from a handful of world localities. The Legrandite specimens from the classic Mapimi mine stand as one of the greatest mineral occurrences extant. This specimen hosts a several crystal aggregates of translucent yellow Legrandite on Limonite matrix. The largest group measures about 1.0 cm long. The color is good for the species with an intense golden-yellow hue when backlit. Most of the crystals are in good shape, and I can't find any serious damage with the naked eye. Good specimens of Legrandite are seldom seen on the market, and I don't have to tell you that top specimens sell for huge money these days. Legrandite is really known from only a handful of localities in good quality examples, but none of them are anywhere as significant as those from the Ojuela Mine, so don't miss out on this classic specimen from this world famous locality.
