Leadhillite (from the Leadhills of Scotland!)

A wonderful old-time specimen of the rare lead carbonate sulfate species, Leadhillite from its namesake locality, the Leadhills of Scotland! Mindat.org listed the Susanna Mine as the actual type locality for the species, but any specimens from the Leadhills is a big deal. This piece features crystals of pale beige colored Leadhillite associated with minor Cerussite, metallic dark grey Galena, and green Pyromorphite. If you look at the back of the piece, there are some spots featuring a yellow mineral (possibly Cassedanneite?). A really cool association specimen from one of the great old lead-zinc districts in all of Europe.

Rob has a background in applied geology in tropical and deeply weathered terrains, he also has done mining consulting in the fields of due diligence, financial and technical audits, process chemistry, environmental geochemistry, environmental engineering and mineralogy.
