Item Description
A very hard to find specimen of "Lazurite" from lesser known Cascade Canyon locality. This piece has been polished to better show the deep azure blue Lazurite patches in host rock matrix. It should be noted that Lazurite is no longer a species, as the ideal formula originally described for Lazurite has not actually been confirmed in nature. Essentially the sulfur anion should be dominant in the chemical composition which has lead some to speculate that Lazurite would be a sulfur-rich variety of Hauyne. If you collect minerals of California, this is a great opportunity to pick up a hard to find specimen from this old deposit in the San Gabriel Mountains. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1979). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
