Item Description

Lazulite is a rare magnesium aluminum phosphate, and some of the finest, highly sought after and best known specimens of this material are found in the Yukon. This area is only accessible for a few months in the summer (it's under snow and ice the rest of the year), and is some of the most treacherous terrain in the world for collecting specimens. This thumbnail features good-sized, sharp, lustrous, very well formed, monoclinic, deep inky blue color crystals of Lazulite measuring up to 8 mm associated with gemmy brown Siderite crystals on matrix. There are few minor nicks, so the piece isn't 100% pristine, but it's still a nice showy thumbnail of this world-famous material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
