Item Description

A fine thumbnail for the species and locale with unusually good aesthetics for a thumbnail version : Lazulite is a rare magnesium aluminum phosphate, and some of the finest, highly sought after, and best known specimens of this material come from this locality. The area around Rapid Creek is only accessible for a few months in the summer for collecting (it's under snow and ice the rest of the year), and is some of the most treacherous terrain in the world for collecting specimens. A gemmy for the species, 1.2 cm, sharp, complex, crystal with beautiful indigo-blue color and patches of striking green is aesthetically perched on a shard of matrix peppered with tiny glassy, colorless crystals.
