Mineral specimens are RARE from this historic and incredibly rich Mexico silver and gold mining district, one of the world's great silver mining areas. The silver mines in the area were the source of more than half the silver produced during the 300 years that Spain ruled Mexico (1521 ??1821). The mines in the district are conservatively estimated to have produced 1.2 billion Troy ounces of silver and 6.2 million ounces of gold. That is 6% of the silver mined throughout the world during the last five centuries (WIKIPEDIA). This is a fantastic, sculptural and incredibly rare large pseudomorph from the Ken Roberts Pseudomorph Collection. The dramatic vug is lined with pretty light lavender chalcedony that has replaced a striking myriad of dogtooth calcite crystals.
