Item Description

What a wonderful rarity from one of the top phosphate localities in the United States. This excellent micro specimen is filled with vugs containing fine quality, sharp, lustrous, GEM/gemmy, honey-gold to yellow-orange color triclinic striated crystals of the manganese iron phosphate, Laueite. According to mindat, the species was named in 1954 in honor of Max Felix Theodor von Laue (1879-1960), professor of physics at the Kaiser-Wilhelm Institute (now Max Planck Institute), Berlin, Germany. Laue was the first to verify that minerals had a regular atomic arrangement as had been predicted by previous physicists. A wonderful representation of this beautiful and rare phosphate.
