Item Description

Lairmar is a beautiful and unique blue gem, only found in the Dominican Republic. The name "Larimar" does not refer to a specific species or variety, it's actually a trade name given to the natural (untreated) blue Pectolite which is only found at the Filipinas Larimar Mine. The name comes from a combination of "Larissa", which was the name of the daughter of Dominican geologist, Miguel Mendez who originally named the material, and "Mar", which is the Spanish word for sea, as it resembles the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. The material is typically massive and opaque, but sometimes you will slightly translucent material. It's important to note that Pectolite is typically a white or off-white hue from most localities, and BLUE is an exceptionally rare color for the species (caused by minor copper content in the stones). As mentioned, these amazing stones are only found in one place in the world, and they are becoming increasingly more popular among collectors, jewelers and dealers due to their durability and alluring color. Here we have a fine, attractive Larimar gem with a "Cabochon" cut and a beautiful light and darker blue color combination. Don't miss out on getting your hands on a lovely example of this wonderfully colorful and special material.
