Item Description

Larimar is a well-known gem today, but it has only been on the market since the 1970s. These beautiful and unique blue gems are only found in the Dominican Republic. The term Larimar is actually a trade name given to the natural (untreated) blue Pectolite (copper-bearing) which is only found at the Filipinas Larimar Mine. The actual name "Larimar" is a combination of "Larissa", which was the name of the daughter of Dominican geologist, Miguel Mendez who originally named the material, and "Mar", which is the Spanish word for sea, as it resembles the crystal blue Caribbean Sea. The material is typically massive and opaque, but sometimes you will slightly translucent material. It's important to note that Pectolite is typically a white or off-white hue from most localities, and BLUE is an exceptionally rare color for the species. These amazing stones are only found in one place in the world, and they are becoming increasingly more popular among collectors, jewelers and dealers due to their durability and alluring color. Here we have an attractive Larimar gem with a "Cushion Cabochon" cut and a beautiful blue and white color combination. Don't miss out on getting your hands on a beautiful example of this wonderfully colorful and special material that is only found in one place on earth.
