Large zoned Lepidolite (Richard Rossi Coll.)

Item Description

Intergrown clusters of columnal pseudo-hexagonal lepidolite crystals form an impressive and sculptural large specimen from the famous pegmatites of the Virgem da Lapa area. Each of the knobby, sparkly orange-brown columnal crystals is dramatically accented with a darker color-zoned band in the middle. The broken faces reveal the beautiful, silvery-lavender luster of the crystals. Considering that lepidolite is usually either sheety like common mica or bearing a dull translucency, this is quite remarkable to see. Ex Richard Rossi Collection. Richard is a Senior Fellow of the Mineralogical Record. Specimens of this size, richness and style are RARE from here. Undoubtedly older material from the 1960s or 1970s finds.
