Item Description
Killer, classic old-time large wavellite from Avant. The dramatic large elongated deep 13.0 cm cleft/cave is fully lined with beautiful sparkly mint-green botryoids in the strikingly sculptural layered silicified shale matrix. There is a hole in the back of the vug you can see through! Avant produced outstanding wavellite specimens in the 1950 to early 70s, before the well-known nearby Mauldin Mountain quarries were developed in the late 1970s. This remarkable old-timer displays well without aid. The bit of noted periphery wear has negligible impact to the overall importance and high quality of this very fine large old-timer. VERY RARE and exceptional large old-time Avant wavellite. Fairly valued at $2500.
