large Vivianite (superb cabinet piece - Brazil!)

Two fantastic sprays of large sharp vivianite crystals are dramatically and aesthetically set on the sculptural large matrix plate. These surreal large gemmy crystals, to 13.5 cm, have gorgeous rich blue-green color and stunning lustre. The secondary cluster is 7.4 cm long. This amazing piece is very nearly pristine. The left 9.5 cm side car to the main spray has a gently bruised tip. The smaller cluster is pristine. The olive-green bubbly botryoidal matrix is a nice contrast. This superlative large specimen is from recent finds at this obscure Amazonas State bog iron deposit, where phosphatic nodules have been opened in recent alluvial deposits replacing organic material, lignite and forest soils (MINDAT). A superb large matrix vivianite from the uncommon locale valued at $2500. We have seen very few better ones from here in this size range up for auction but bought a big lot direct, and decided to throw a few to the audience here. I HAVE seen pieces such as this with a few dealers at Tucson and Munich, in particular a European dealer who bought them early and had very similar items at prices of 5000 to 10000 British pounds, for whatever comparison that is worth.
