Item Description
An outstanding, very impressive and large, V-twin cerussite specimen from the famous and now-closed Tsumeb Mine. The dramatic twin is 5.8 x 4.8 and 3.8 cm thick! All of the glassy, translucent crystals have classic adamantine luster and rich smoky color. The perpendicular cerussite cluster is imposing in its own right! It is 6.3 cm wide and is an intergrown cluster of cyclic-twins that resemble bournonite cogwheels or a cockscomb. There is another small V-twin on the side of the large twin. The V-twin is very nearly pristine, with only trivial termination wear to one limb. The cogwheels are also in great shape, with only trivial termination wear. This aesthetic and imposing, large V-twin cerussite is an important Tsumeb classic ; and is fairly valued at $2500-3500. A major spiker for our auctions, this is from the John Ydren collection built up in the 1950s-1970s in Los Angeles. Specimens of this very high calibre are normally reserved for the Gallery and private sales. It is an exceptional, imposing piece
