large Turquoise nugget (circa 1960s)

Impressive large and sculptural old turquoise nugget from Arkansas. The 3-dimensional nugget has fine bluish-green color and the striking 3.7 cm cavity in the front really enhances the piece. This obscure phosphate mine was intermittently active from 1950 to 1981 (MINDAT). This totally natural nugget is from the only gem quality turquoise mine in the eastern portion of the US! The material was collected by the mine owner in the 1960s and stashed in his garage. Such natural nuggets are rare, as most are crushed for powder or carved for cabochons. 400 grams or 0.9 pounds mass. Obtained from mine owner James Zigras out of the private stash of the predecessor mine owner. A very large, rare and excellent turquoise nugget from the locale.
