Item Description
Todorokite is a fairly common, extremely complex Mn-oxide. This large rare, rich sculptural specimen is from the much less well-known Smartt Mine of the Kalahari. Mineral specimens of ANY type are RARE from here. A 1.3 cm to 3 mm stepped vein of fibrous gray todorokite caps the shipshape massive Mn-ore matrix on all sides. The flat pediment of the thin todorokite reveals the nubby terminations of the fibers. Specimens of this sized and richness are RARE from the Smartt Mine and from the Kalahari mines, in general. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
