Item Description

An impressive and sculptural large solid crust of aesthetically intergrown glassy sheaves of pearlescent light brown stilbite blades from the famous and extinct Upper New Street Quarry. This old quarry operated from 1893 until 1925. The quarry walls were trimmed in the 1980s for new housing development, yielding many new specimens. This is one of the most famous New Jersey Traprock quarries. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from Mark Dietz in 1987. Mark collected the piece in 1987. The noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context and extraction of such a large specimen. The piece has two fine display views. Stilbite is a signature species from the quarry and this is a classic, fine and rich large example.
