The ancient polymetallic sulfide mines at Cassandra, dating to Alexander the Great, are famous for unusual stalactitic and botryoidal rhodochrosite and sulfide specimens. This super rich and impressive large plate is totally covered with two generations of the uncommon stalactitic varietal. Most of the sculptural 3-dimensional piece is covered with smaller pastel-pink satin lustre stalactites. A striking dense band of larger, rich pink stalactites dramatically crosses the plate perpendiculary, with a small nest in the lower right hand corner. The larger stalactites reach about 1.6 cm. Amazingly, for all the richness, there are very few broken stalactites! This is a superlative, sculptural, extremely large grouping of this varietal from this locale. Valued at $2000-2500 for uncommon style, richess, quality and large size. RARE on the market in this size.
