large Smithsonite (Cadmium-bearing)

Item Description

Very attractive and rich large smithsonite from recent finds in China. The fine rich yellow color of the translucent, bubbly botryoids with waxy luster is due cadmium content. The imposing, mounded cluster of botryoids dominating the piece is 5.4 x 3.9 cm. Pristine, except for minimal periphery wear on the right edge and front. 1030 grams or 2.3 pounds mass. This material is from circa 2002-2003 finds, was held back for a number of years and was highly popular when released. Wenshan is well-known for outstanding hemimorphite, calcite, aragonite and now yellow smithsonite specimens. It resembles classic yellow smithsonite from Italy, Tsumeb and Mexico. This is a large, excellent and sculptural piece from the locale.
