Item Description
Impressive, highly sculptural and rich large azurite from the Junction Mine at Bisbee. The striking very sturdy boxwork gossan matrix is richly covered on all sides with two generations of azurite. Intensely sparkly spherical aggregates of tiny navy-blue azurite crystals cover most of the piece. The 12.0 cm long deep large crystal-lined vug on one side is noteworthy. These crystals glow with "electric-blue" color under bright light. Powder-blue and coated botryoids on one side are a superlative complement and contrast. The bit of scattered periphery wear, revealing the spherical banding and color variations of the botryoids adds even more interest. Formerly in the Richard Heacock Collection of Pennsylvania. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired from Dick Hauck in 1998. Mineral specimens from this well-known large volume former Bisbee mine are very uncommon and this is an outstanding large azurite example. Undoubtedly older material, but no proof. Valued at $2000-2500.
