Item Description

Rare, large and impressive schorl with accessories from the Fano Mine. This more obscure pegmatite mine in Riverside County, not famous San Diego County, is well-known for fine schorl specimens, such as this. The tapered textbook jet-black trigonal crystal has high lustre that compliments the well-striated prism faces. The 4.3 cm doubly terminated schorl at the termination, 4.3 cm doubly terminated translucent smoky quartz at the base with multiple terminations and scattered embedded contrasting albite and muscovite are dramatic accessories on this striking large and rare large combination schorl. It is probably from the 1980s finds. Complete all-around and in great shape overall for such a large crystal. The two clean repairs, with a bit of filling, are certanly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species.
