Item Description

A rare old large solid contacted vein section of long fiber Riebeckite variety Crocidolite Asbestos from the extinct asbestos mines of the Prieska area of Northern Cape, South Africa, near the famous Kalahari manganese fields. Only a few of the densely packed hair-like fibers project out from the piece. This material is perhaps the worst perpetrator of asbestos lung disease. Ex Al Kidwell Collection and dates to the 1960s to 80s with his faded label. Al was a well-known Houston collector and research geologist for Exxon. The Phosphate Kidwellite is named for him.
