Item Description

An impressive large hemisphere of dense aggregates of lustrous, translucent orthorhombic olmiite crystals from the well-known early 2000's finds at this famous mine. At 4.7 cm, this is definitely one of the larger spherical aggregates found in good condition. The juicy, glassy luster sparkly crystals are a pretty brownish-peach under reflected light and GLOW a beautiful cinnamon, when backlit. The bit of attached matrix adds character and contrast. The attachment on the back shows the striking radial growth of the very elongated crystals. A bit of contacting in the front lower position is noted, but is certainly only a modest detraction to this exceptional large specimen (as you can see in the pics). It is a significant large piece of a rare species and more than that, it is a beautiful specimen that is a FULL miniature. Much larger and better, than you would normally expect to obtain. This would be a $10,000-plus specimen, if perfectly spherical instead of half of the sphere, with contact on back - but from the front and displayed on a shelf, it certainly looks like one of those expensive and now-gone greatest specimens of this find. Also, since it is half-thick, the light REALLy comes through and backlights it more than any other I have seen of this fine pocket, that was so important for the species.
