large rare Colemanite (Reynolds Coll.)

Item Description

RARE and significant large colemanite from the extinct East Coleman Borate Mine in the famous Type Locality area. A striking 7.0 x 4.8 x 4.6 cm spray of isolated crystals dramatically dominates the sculptural mounded sawed piece. Larger glassy, translucent 1st generation blades are attractively partially covered with smaller 2nd generation blades on the massive granular colemanite matrix. Specimens are RARE from this mine. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. Probably collected by Jim Minette or with Al Ordway in the 1960s or 1970s (when they came out, and Minette was in charge of mine access). Mass is 1866 grams or 4.1 pounds. An exceptional and rare large colemanite from the locale. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
