Large rare Calcite w/ Fluorapophyllite-(K) (fluorescent!)

An amazing and rare large calcite and apophyllite combination from the largest open pit mine in South Africa. This striking 360-degree specimen is composed of large intergrown lustrous, translucent, blocky, straw-yellow rhombs, to an impressive 8.7 cm on edge. Two generations of apophyllite crystals dramatically, preferentially cover the calcite rhombs. First came the blocky, tetragonal, glassy, translucent, bi-colored creamy to white crystals, to 3.2 cm (especially the cluster on one corner of the calcites). These crystals have surreal yellow fluorescence! Scintillating tiny second generation apophyllites preferentially coat much of the rest of this glorious and rare combination. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a couple of lightly bruised calcite corners. The attachment is at the base of the piece. An outstanding large and rare calcite and apophyllite combination from the Palabora Mine. Fairly valued at $1000-1250 for size, combination quality and rarity.
