Item Description

Impressive, classic and RARE large complete quartz geode with accessories from the well-known limestone roadcuts South of Bloomington, Indiana. Sparkly, druzy quartz lines both halves of the geode. The dramatic, larger 'A' side hosts: 1) a sculptural 8.0 cm tall cluster of translucent, satin luster Calcite crystals. The large horizontal terminated calcite crystal is 4.2 cm long. The large calcite crystal at the top is cleaved; 2) nifty scattered clusters of amber, glassy, gem Baryte window panes to about 2.2 cm; and 3) scattered clusters of contrasting, brown ferroan Dolomite crystals. The sculptural horizontal bands of druzy quartz on the 'B' side host a few clusters of small Baryte blades, a couple of ferroan Dolomite clusters AND the cleaved 2.2 cm end of the large cleaved calcite on the 'A' side. Modest pink LW UV calcite fluorescence. 2828 grams or 6.2 mass pounds. A USA classic from the broad and important collections of Dick Hauck, founder and owner of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in New Jersey. The last and largest complete geode from the small lot we obtained from Dick. These quartz lined geodes are classic for old Midwest collections but we seldom see them out of the Ohio and Indiana region for sale, and they were collected in roadcuts that are no longer accessible. Specimens were intermittently collected from the roadcuts from the 1960s into the 2000s.
