Item Description

A dramatic, impressive and RARE style large pyromorphite from Herdorf in Siegerland. Sharp, lustrous, translucent, interesting light green to light brown, classic hexagonal barrels, to over 2.0 cm, are dramatically scattered in the fantastic large limonite boxwork matrix. Yes, broken crystals are noted, but this remains a very signifcant and RARE large pyromorphite combination from this famous locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5200 and acquired from Sol Shale in 1967 or 68. Kay's label is partially correct. MINDAT does not list pyromorphite from the famous Wolf Mine, source of Europe's best rhodochrosite specimens. Two other nearby mines in Herdorf produced pyromorphite - the San Fernando Mine (most likely) and the Alte Malscheid Mine. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Probably old-timer material, but no proof. RARE and important large pyromorphite from Herdorf and a must for the species or locality collector.
