Item Description

Impressive and classic large prehnite from this famous extinct New Jersey Traprock quarry. Striking elongated bubbly botryoidal "fingers" of rich mint-green, translucent prehnite with frosted faces cover the sculptural piece. The fingers reach about 5.5 cm long. The fingers are actually casts or epimorphs after anhydrite blades. The back of the piece reveals the hollow casted anhydrite cavities. This historic quarry was active from 1893 to 1925, but housing construction in the area recovered superb specimens in the late 1980s, such as this outstanding example. 2247 grams or 4.9 pounds mass.
