Item Description

Mineral specimens from this obscure extinct Kazakhstan magnetite iron quarry are very uncommon and are seldom on the market today. Notable species included magnetite and pyrite, along with some fine prehnite specimens, such as this impressive and surprising large combination. Beautiful translucent rich apple-green botryoids, to 3.2 cm, with matte lustre surfaces line a sculptural vug and are nicely accented with dark epidote crystals and small striated pyrite crystals. The rich dacite ore matrix is strongly magnetic with microcrystalline magnetite - a nice surprise. The quarry opened in 1983 and probably closed soon after the Soviet collapse in 1991. This excellent large combination displays very well from both directions, without aid. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 2000. Very choice and uncommon large prehnite combination material from the extinct locale.
