Item Description

A gorgeous rich reddish-orange agate band surrounds the starkly contrasting fibrous-looking colorless quartz core on this most impressive large and colorful two-sided translucent polished agate slab from Minas Gerais. The striking dense outer bands vary from light blue to gray-blue and the arborescent rind on one end adds much character. The closed "funnel" into the core and opening on one side to the interior adds even more pizzazz. Very interestingly, backlighting turns the light blue bands to gray and the blue-gray bands to yellow-green. A very interesting phenomenon. 284 grams mass. Ex Ken Roberts Collection.
