large Plattnerite with Calcite and Hemimorphite

The Ojuela Mine has been attributed with having over 100 different mineral types. Some more common than others: Plattnerite is a relatively rare lead dioxide mineral that is difficult to find as a quality specimen. This cabinet sized specimen has a extensive covering of rich acicular, metallic black crystals of Plattnerite with contrasting clear to white lustrous Calcite and tiny Hemimorphite crystals. The piece displays as an alternating multi-layered Calcite and Plattnerite specimen on the typical Ojuela Limonite matrix with rows of nubby rounded masses of build-up in the back creating some depth as well as three dimensionality to the piece.
