Item Description

RARE, colorful and sculptural large combination from the less well-known, extinct Pb-Zn Bilbao Mine of Zacatecas. Orange, rounded hexagonal, translucent Mimetite crystals, to 8 mm, cover the entire undulating face of the impressive piece. The mimetites dramatically peer out beneath the coatings of two starkly contrasting and rare mineral species. Rare, sparkly, microcrystalline black Plattnerite, lead oxide, covers much of the piece along with coatings of rare bone-white aragonite. The minimal bruising is certainly a modest detraction to this striking rarity. This specimen is not from famous San Pedro Corralitos, but from this mine that has been inactive since about 2001. The piece has a prop glued to the base for the vertical display. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. This striking and rare large combination has two fine display views.
