large Peridot in basalt

Item Description

Striking phenocrysts (a relatively large and usually conspicuous crystal distinctly larger than the grains of the rock groundmass of a porphyritic igneous rock) of gemmy light and dark green forsterite variety peridot granules are embedded on and in all sides of the sculptural, large basalt matrix. These well-known specimens are from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. Mass is 9.3 pounds or 4.2 kilos.
