Item Description
A California and USA Classic! These were mined by Norm Dawson and his family, from the late 1950s to early 70s. This is a very fine large example of a gemmy morganite crystal nicely set in sculptural cleavelandite matrix. The lustrous crystal has pretty variable pink color, typical of many for the locality. The pinacoid termination is very gemmy and you can look nearly to the back of the crystal, with the prism faces being typically frosted and translucent. The back of this large crystal is partly terminated. One side is in great shape, while others are contacted and bruised (though the piece still displays well and the main faces are intact). A clean repair has reattached part of the back of the morganite crystal. The measurable crystal (including broken\contacted faces) is 8.8 x 7.3 (C-axis face) x 6.5 cm. This is a large, classic, high quality and uncommon White Queen morganite. 793 grams or 1.7 pounds masss. Valued at $6000-8000. An excellent spiker for this auction.
