Well-formed hematite specimens are rare on matrix in any case, let alone on cabinet plates, from Switzerland. Classic, lustrous hematite "iron roses" with a couple of quartz crystals cover the large feldspar matrix plate on this impressive, rich, sculptural and aesthetic specimen from the extensive Rolf Wein Collection # 4115. Purchased at the Zurich Show in 1969. RARE and desirable Swiss hematite from an unusual locality compared to what we normally see for sale. But locality aside, it is a large plate with so many roses on it,, that it is a real surprise. Valued $1500 by Kristalle when they dispersed this collection a decade ago
