Large matrix Herkimer "diamond" w/ Dolomite (rare)

A fabulous, 9.3 x 8.0 x 7.8 cm, Herkimer quartz "diamond" with a fantastic double termination and great form is dramatically perched on the silicified shale matrix peppered with clusters of gray, saddle-shapd dolomite rhombs. The very glassy, gem-like crystal is water-clear, with the internal veils adding character and giving off pretty rainbows, depending on the light incidence. This is a superlative and rare, large 360-degree specimen is from a nearby, less well-known New York locale. Matrix Herkimer quartz "diamond" specimens are rare because the crystals commonly break off matrix during collecting, as the matrix is usually very hard. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a small mostly out-of-sight bruise to the edge of the taller termination. Valued at $3000 by the former dealer who had it last, due to the super form, pristine condition and rare combination. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! RARE in this quality.
