Item Description
Significant large matrix baryte specimens are RARE from this less well-known Cumbrian baryte mine. This dramatic and rich large piece is dominated by the strikingly angled, 10.5 x 5.1 x 2.1 cm, bladed crystal set in a forest of smaller crystals. Part of the sharp termination to the pristine large grayish crystal is water-clear, colorless. The smaller crystals generally have frosted faces. A few broken crystals are noted on the periphery, but overall this outstanding, probably older, large piece is in great shape. A handwritten note on the back of the Bob Trimingham label says a 1 inch crystal in front has been reattached. UV lighting shows no repaired crystals. Purchased in 1962. Ex F. Stevano Collection. Valued at $1250.
