Brilliant, metallic-luster, razor sharp, jet-black magnetite octahedrons are dramatically festooned on this impressive, large and sculptural volcanic matrix plate from this well-known Bolivian locale - Cerro Huanaquina. The octos reach 1.8 cm on edge. Scattered crystal bruising and some periphery wear are noted, but this remains a dramatic, large and very rich example from the locale. These were recovered between 2001 and 2008. Strongly magnetic, as you would expect. 2514 grams or 5.5 pounds mass. Ex Demetrius Pohl Collection, a well-known exploration geologist, mineral dealer, collector and author. Specimens of this size, richness and uniform crystal size are not that common. This is in fact one of the largest such examples we have seen, and they are NOT contemporary.
